Olivia Lauryn Dean (Born March 14, 1999) is an English singer who was born and raised in Walthamstow. She captures her audience through her soothing voice and her upbeat, instrumental music. Her music captures her essence through her music videos, located in London, and the stories embedded in her music. Dean allows her vulnerability to filter through her music and has formed a strong foundation for her successes. Growing up with a Jamaican-Guyanese mother who felt strongly about women’s rights through her participation in the Women’s Equality Party is reflected in Dean’s career. In New Wave Magazine, she mentions that her need for her music is shown through the lens of a woman, showing how women’s participation in the music industry should be appreciated and encouraged. Her debut single, Reason To Stay, allowed for Dean’s status to slowly progress, which lands her with a collaboration with Rudimental. Password Change gained traction from FADER, I-D and Clash and Line of Best Fit, which was BBC’s introducing gig in December alongside Hak Baker.
